Bios:

  • Dr. Karen E. Watkins is Professor of Learning, Leadership and Organizational Development in the College of Education at The University of Georgia. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin. Karen’s scholarly interests include organizational learning assessment, informal and incidental learning, and. action science. Together with Victoria Marsick, Karen developed and validated the Dimensions of the Learning Organization Questionnaire (1997) used in over 80 published studies. Karen was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Academy of Human Resource Development Scholar Hall of Fame in 2014. Karen was one of the founding presidents of the Academy of Human Resource Development and is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Geneva Learning Foundation in Switzerland.

  • Dr. Victoria Marsick is Professor of Adult Learning & Leadership at Columbia University, Teachers College where she directs academic programs in Adult Learning and Leadership. She worked in Asia and other countries for many years with not-for-profit organizations and UNICEF prior to joining the Teachers College faculty. Victoria has worked with organizations to design, develop and implement learning and leadership interventions. She has published many articles and books, often with Karen Watkins, on informal and incidental learning at work—in individual learners, and through their collaborative work with others in, and on behalf of, groups, communities and organizations. She has been inducted into the Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame, and has received the 2018 HRD Scholar Hall of Fame Award from the Academy of Human Resource Development.

  • Dr. Geleana D. Alston is a tenured Associate Professor of Adult Education and a faculty affiliate with the Center of Excellence in Product Design and Advanced Manufacturing at North Carolina A&T State University. Her scholarly engagement focuses on mentoring and adult learning/development; inclusive practices in workforce education and leadership development in STEM; history of African Americans in adult education; and faculty development and career progression. She has authored over 25 scholarly publications and is the recipient of the 2020 Malcolm Knowles Award for Outstanding Adult Education Leadership. She is the CEO for Alston Educational Group LLC and her company helps people push through tensions and seek prosperous and sustainable solutions.
